PURPOSE: A method for providing numbers to accept private ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) network subscribers in the ATM switching system is provided to accept private ATM network numbers by separating numbers into country codes, trunk codes, office codes and so on, in processing number translation. CONSTITUTION: If a called subscriber number is inputted and the translation of an international call is requested(401), a country code is translated based on a country code table(402). As a result of translation, in case that it is a national call, a number type is set up as a trunk code(404). If the translation of a toll call is requested(406), the trunk code of the called subscriber number is translated based on a trunk code table(407). As a result of the translation of the trunk code, if it is not the toll call, the number type is set up as a office code(410). If the translation of other trunk call is requested(411), the office code is translated based on the office code table(412).
