PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic disk device that a number of troubles is minimized while TA is generated. SOLUTION: Signals read by an MR head 1 from a magnetic disk medium 2 are AGC amplified into read waveforms (a) by an R/WIC3, decoded into read data (b) by an R/W circuit 4, error corrected by an HDD control circuit 7 and then, transmitted to a host device 9. A TA detecting circuit 5 detects TA from the waveforms (a) and transmits a TA generation notice (c) to an AGC control circuit 6 and an ECC circuit 8. If the circuit 6 receives the signal (c), the circuit 6 transmits a signal (f) to the IC3 to hold an AGC. If AGC is held during the generation of TA, the disturbance in the waveforms (a) is suppressed to a minimum and the number of errors of the data (b) is minimized. Moreover, an error correcting capability is increased because the location of an error is specified by the signal (c).
