PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a ground fabric for adhesive interlining cloth resistant to the collapse of shape, having excellent drapeability and capable of forming a refined elegant silhouette by immersing a specific cross-filament nonwoven fabric in hot water, crumpling in the water and treating under a specific condition. SOLUTION: A plurality of uniaxially oriented thermoplastic filament webs made of a polyester, etc., are laminated at a cross-angle of 30-150 deg., subjected to thermal bonding to form a cross-filament nonwoven fabric, immersed in hot water and crumpled to liberate a part of the welded part between the filaments and increase the longitudinal and lateral elongation to at least >2% to obtain the objective cross-filament nonwoven fabric. The above cross-filament nonwoven fabric is preferably subjected to cam-fit treatment to liberate a part of the welded part of the filaments. The obtained ground fabric for adhesive interlining cloth is preferably embossed to apply a number of protrusions and recesses on the fabric.
