摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control optical switching characteristic and image holding characteristic of an improved gyricon sheet. SOLUTION: A rotary element 34 to be used for an electric paper system is substantially cylindrical or spherical and consists of at least three portions. Each portion has related optical modulation characteristics. The optical modulation characteristics of at least one portion are different from the optical modulation characteristics of at least one of other portions. One portion can be permanently magnetized. Moreover, since the rotary element 34 has anisotropy, it generates electric dipole moment. By the electric dipole moment, the element 34 has electric responsiveness. By the electrical responsiveness is meant the tendency that when the rotary element is disposed rotatably in an electric field while the electric bipolar moment is generated, the element 34 rotates in the direction to align the electric dipole moment along direction of the electric field.
