PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double needle sewing machine or double head type sewing machine provided with perpendicular shuttles capable of easily loading or exchanging a bobbin for bobbin thread. SOLUTION: This sewing machine comprises first and second sewing needles Na and Nb to move up and down with the rotation of an upper shaft 1, first and second shuttle shafts 9 and 11 provided parallel to a lower shaft 5, shuttle units K and K' composed of shuttle attaching stands 10a and 12 having opening parts 10b and 12b fixed at the ends of respective shuttle shafts 9 and 11 for loading a bobbin case or the like into a inner shuttle body and shuttles 10 and 12 attached at the free ends of the relevant shuttle attaching stands, shuttle shaft stand 19 movable along with the lower shaft 5 while supporting an interlock mechanism 17 for transmitting the rotations of shuttle unit K and lower shaft 5 to the first shuttle shaft 9, shuttle shaft stand 20 movable along the lower shaft 5 while supporting an interlock mechanism 18 for transmitting the rotations of shuttle unit K' and lower shaft 5 to the second shuttle shaft 11, and shuttle body pressers 23 and 24 for supporting the shuttle body so as not to rotate it.
