The ink passage (14) is opened and closed using a valve body (16) attached to a piezoelectric converter (18). A liquid dispensing device comprises a base plate (12) with a passage selectively opened and closed by a valve body moved backwards and forwards. Valve body movement is carried out using a piezoelectric converter (18), to which the valve body is attached. Independent claims are also included for (a) a writing head for a drop-on-demand ink-jet printer comprising the dispensing device, and (b) the use of a valve body attached to a piezoelectric converter for selectively opening and closing a passage for liquid.
