PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymer thin film having a thickness of a nanometer order by immersing a solid surface in a specific liquid to adsorb the specific liquid monomer on the solid surface, and then polymerizing the liquid monomer. SOLUTION: This polymer thin film is obtained by immersing a solid surface in a multicomponent liquid, which contains a polymerizable liquid monomer having an affinity for the solid surface, to selectively adsorb the liquid monomer on the solid surface and then polymerizing the liquid monomer. The affinity for the solid surface corresponds to a property of the solid surface, as a selective adsorption capability, and is considered, for example, as the affinity for an oxygen atom, hydrogen atom, Si-O-bonding, OH bonding, and other atoms existing on the solid surface. The polymerizable liquid monomer having the affinity exists in a liquid state at a prescribed temperature, and can be (co) polymerized under certain conditions, such as the presence of heat and light, and further radiation and catalyst. A monomer having a carbon-carbon unsaturated bond, more concretely, an ethylenic unsaturated bond, is examplified.
