The output appts. capable of efficient conversion to dot matrix format has a unit for direct conversion of code data into dot matrix data, and a unit for conversion from code data into dot matrix data through non-dot matrix data. The control is principally based on direct conversion for achieving high speed processing, but indirect conversion is utilised in combination to reduce the required memory capacity. Tje dot matrix character memory unit (10), consisting of a ROM or a RAM, stores dot matrix data corresponding to character data. A non-dot matrix character memory unit (11) stores vector data or run-length data corresponding to the character data. The auxiliary memory interface serves to read the dot matrix data corresponding to the character data, from the mounted auxiliary memory (3).
