PURPOSE: A rotational force transmitting device of a speedometer is provided to indicate velocity on the speedometer during a backward movement and to normally calculate a traveling distance by rotating a cable connected to the speedometer during the backward movement in the same direction as during a forward movement. CONSTITUTION: A rotational force transmitting device for a speedometer contains a speedometer driven gear(4) receiving rotational force from a differential gear; a main shaft(6) rotating with the rotational force of the speedometer driven gear; a counter shaft(16) connected to the speedometer through a cable(14), on the main shaft; a clutch device(12) transmitting rotational force from the main shaft to the counter shaft during the forward rotation of the main shaft; a driven gear(20) receiving rotational force from the main shaft; a secondary shaft(18) relatively rotated on the same shaft as the driven gear; the other clutch device(22) transmitting rotational force from the main shaft to the secondary shaft during the reverse rotation of the main shaft; and an idle gear(26) transmitting the rotational force of the secondary shaft to the counter shaft. Thus, during the backward movement of the vehicle, the cable is rotated in the same direction as during the forward movement.
