<p>An audio signal is typically formed from several periodic segments, each being formed from successive repetitions of a constituent period. A real-time compression method takes advantage of this phenomenon by identifying the periodic segments and forming a truncated signal in which each periodic segment is represented by one constituent period, together with information indicative of the number of constituent periods in the segment. The truncated signal is then provided to a compressor to generate a compressed version of the audio signal.</p> |
