HYDROGENATION PROCESS OF POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBON

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for efficiently hydrogenating a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon contained in a fraction of petroleum having a boiling point of from 200 to 400 deg.C, which solves the conventional problems. SOLUTION: When hydrogenating a fraction of petroleum hydrocarbon which contains a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon and has a boiling point of from 200 to 400 deg.C, a light component containing a bicyclic aromatic hydrocarbon is separated from a heavy component containing an aromatic hydrocarbon with three or more rings through distillation. After hydrogenating the light component and the heavy component in mutually independent processes, the light component is mixed with the heavy component to efficiently hydrogenate the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon.
