PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exactly align the threshold value of a plurality of photoelectric sensors by easily setting the threshold value of the photoelectric sensors to a specific value. SOLUTION: In a photoelectric sensor 11, specific threshold values (such as a maximum distance threshold value, a minimum distance threshold value) are stored in a nonvolatile memory at delivery from factory. If a setting mode turnover switch 34 is adjusted to the teaching mode (TEACH) and a set switch 32b is pushed at least for a specified time (3 seconds for example), the specific values stored at the delivery from factory are set. If the time when the set switch 32b is pushed is shorter than the specified time, the distance to the front object is set as the threshold value by a normal teaching operation.
