TRACKING CONTROL APPARATUS

PURPOSE: A tracking controller is provided to finely reproduce information by preventing bit errors and to exactly embody a head mesomerism detecting circuit without adding a specific circuit. CONSTITUTION: A digital modulating/demodulating circuit(108) demodulates a playback signal and outputs a track pair number of the data. An ECC circuit(105) corrects a code error of the demodulated data and outputs a bit error rate signal. An ATF(Automatic track finding) detection circuit(117) converts a pilot signal to a DC level. A capstan servo circuit(501) performs a tracking to control a capstan rotation according to a difference between a track pair number corresponding to a present track number and a present track pair number after tracking according to an output of the ATF detection circuit. A tracking compensator compensates the tracking to rotate the capstan toward a reducing direction of the bit error rate when the bit error rate signal is over a minimum bit error value. A playback is finely performed with the low bit error rate though a reality of the track is bad.
