PURPOSE: A focusing delay calculating method and an apparatus are provided to obtain a precise focusing delay by embodying a calculation of a focusing delay distance. CONSTITUTION: A delay variable calculator(30) calculates a delay variable corresponding to an (n+1)th focusing point using a reference focusing distance of an nth focusing point and an integer focusing delay distance and a determining variable corresponding conversion elements. A sampling clock generator(40) generates a clock signal for obtaining an ultrasonic signal from an n+1 focusing point of a corresponding conversion element by using the delay variable calculated by the delay variable calculator(30). The sampling clock generator(40) calculates a reference focusing distance(rn), an integer focusing delay distance(in), and a determining variable(dn) corresponding to the (n+1)th focusing point using the delay variable from the delay variable calculator(30).
