<p>Apparatus for separating individual items (10) from a bandolier (12) of adjacent items (10) having seams (14) between the items (10). A pair of upper jaws (18) and a pair of lower jaws (20) open and close horizontally to clamp and release the respective seam (14). The lower jaws (20) pull the bandolier (12) downwardly through the open upper jaws (18). The seam (14) is cut while the upper jaws (18) close to grasp an adjacent seam (14). The lower jaws (20) open to release the separated item (10) to a delivery system (38, 39) and the lower jaws (20) move upwardly to a position below amd adjacent to the upper jaws (18). The lower jaws (20) close and the sequence is repated. At first sensor (32) identifies an identification feature (36) on the items (10) and transmits signals to a control unit (34) to actuate movement of the upper and lower jaws (18, 20). A second sensor (40) assures that separation is only at the respective seam (14).</p> |
