The invented lamp (2) for providing visible radiation comprises a lamp (2) container made of light transmitting material having volume to outer surface ratio at least 0.45 cm and having a charge containing during excitation at least one component being selected from a group comprising sulfur, selenium and tellurium. The component concentration being lower than 1.75 mg/cubic centimeter is sufficient to ensure primary emission of radiation of the component within visible portion of spectrum at the lamp operational temperature. The lamp (2) further comprises a source (16) of electromagnetic energy and means for connecting the charge to said electromagnetic energy source (16) at power density ranging between 5 W/cubic centimeter to 100 W/cubic centimeter that is sufficient for inducing emission of said radiation from said container.
