PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the wasteful use of electric power due to unwitting turn-off of an AC adapter, etc., by providing the AC adapter which charges a battery by converting AC power into prescribed DC power, and cutting off the supply of AC power to the adapter when the charging of the battery is completed by monitoring the charging state. SOLUTION: When the charging of a battery 62 is completed, a charging-state detecting section 33 discriminates a charging completing state from the level of a charging signal and turns off a relay 32. Consequently, the power supply from a connector 11 is cut off. The detecting section 33 uses the DC power VD from an AC adapter 20 as its motive power, but, when the charging of the battery 62 is completed, the supply of the DC power VD to the charging state detecting section 33 is cut off by turning off the relay 32 so as to save the power consumption by the adapter 20. Therefore, the power consumption of the adapter 20 can be saved surely even when it is forgotten that the battery 62 is being charged even when the charging is completed or the completion of charging is not noticed, because the supply of the AC power to the detecting section 33 is cut off when the charging of the battery 62 is completed.
