PURPOSE: A method for searching an usable replacement block for an optical recording medium is provided, which searches an usable good alternate block. CONSTITUTION: A method for searching an usable replacement block for an optical recording medium comprises: (701) discriminating as to whether one or more entries registered in SDL are exited; (702) discriminating as to whether an SDL entry which an alternate block is allocated is existed when one or more entries registered in SDL are exited; (703) determining a good block which follows a last data block as a good alternate block when one or more entries registered in SDL are not exited; (704) searching an alternate block having a highest address among used alternate blocks when SDL entry which an alternate block is allocated is existed; and (705) determining a good block which follows the searched alternate block as a first usable alternate block. Thereby, it is possible to accurately perform the data record/reproduction to an alternate block.
