PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an agent for hepatic failure useful for prevention and remedy or various kinds of hepatic failures such as virus hepatitis, alcoholic hepatic injury, and drug induced hepatic injury by including an extract of Spondylus varius Sowerby as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This agent for hepatic failure contains an extract of Spondylus varius Sowerby as an active ingredient. The raw material for the extract is Spondylus varius Sowerby, Spodylidae, Pteriomorphia of Bivalvia, living in south sea such as Okinawa area, and its close species. The extract is obtained by extracting the raw material by using a solvent, and optionally partially purifying the obtained extract. If necessary, the obtained extract can be subjected to means such as condensation, liquid-liquid distribution, and adsorption chromatography. The extract can be used as a medicine, and also allowed to be included in a functional food. |
