PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for obtaining the surface of a car body which enables staining substances to easily be washed off with water. SOLUTION: A method for rendering the surface of a car body hydrophilic comprises applying to a car body a composition comprising at least (a) photocatalyst particles composed of a metal oxide, (b) at least one member selected form the group consisting of silica fine particles, a silicone resin film precursor capable of forming a silicone resin film and a silica film precursor capable of forming a silica film, and (c) a solvent the composition rendering the surface of its applied member hydrophilic by photo-excitation of the photocatalyst particles with a concentration of the total amount of the photocatalyst particles and the silica fine particles or the precursors in terms of the weight of silica in the composition of 0.01-5 wt.%, provided that the concentration of the total amount of the photocatalyst particles and the silica film precursor or the silicone resin film precursor in terms of the weight of silica is 0.01-1 wt.% when the composition contains the silica film precursor or the silicone resin film precursor, and drying or curing the composition. |
