PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject preventive and treating medicine having effects for various vasospasms, especially cerebrovascular spasm, by adding a specific N2-arylsulfonyl-L-argininamide compound as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This medicine for preventing or treating vasospasms contains (2R,4R)-4-methyl-1- N2[(RS)-3-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-8-quinolinesulfonyl]-L- arginyl}-2-piperidinecarboxylic acid of the formula, its hydrate or its salt as an active ingredient. The monohydrate of the compound of the formula is especially preferably used. The preventing or treating medicine is, for example, preferably administered at a daily dose of 0.1-50 mg/kg for an adult, when intravenously administered. The preventing or treating medicine may be used for improving cerebrovascular spasm especially accompanied by subarachnoid hemorrhage, vasospasm after an operation against subarachnoid hemorrhage and various cerebral ischemic symptoms accompanied by the vasospasms.
