FERRULE FOR OPTICAL FIBER CONNECTORS

PURPOSE: A ferrule for optical fiber connectors used for the maintenance of an optical communication network is provided. CONSTITUTION: The ferrule (1) comprises crystallized glass having the composition of 60-70 wt.% of SiO2, 16-25 wt.% of Al2O3, 1.5-3 wt.% of Li2O, 0.5-2.5 wt.% MgO, 1.3-4.5 wt.% of TiO2, 0.5-3 wt.% of ZrO2, 2-6.5 wt.% of TiO2+ZrO2, 1-5.5 wt.% of K2O,0-7 wt.% of ZnO and 0-3 wt.% of BaO. This crystallized glass is produced by depositing Beta-spodumene solid solution of an average grain size of not more than 2 micrometers or 30-70 vol.% of Beta-quartz solid solution. This crystallized glass has a bend strength of not less than 200 MPa and a thermal expansion coefficient at -50 to 150°C of -10 to 50 times 10¬-7/°C.
