PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain a sufficient reflux of a working fluid and realize an excellent heat transfer property by providing a plate member inserted in a container having a cavity part with a flat cross-sectional shape, having a length equal with a longitudinal length of the cavity part and having a recessed part formed in a longitudinal direction and a wick inserted within the container. SOLUTION: A wick 10 is inserted in a recessed part of a plate member 20 and is inserted together with the plate member 20 into a container tube 30. As the wick 10, e.g. braided metal wires (knitted item) or bundles of metal wires are used. After the wick 10 together with the plate member 20 is inserted into the container tube 30, processes (heat pipe making processes) such as cleaning, injection of a working fluid, degassing, closure of both ends by welding and the like are executed to obtain a heat pipe. The container tube 30 that has been changed into the heat pipe is subjected to flattening work such as press working or the like so as to obtain a flat heat pipe.
