The method involves generating at least one calibration signal with at least one signal source (304), coupling (305) it into a signal (308) to be transmitted, coupling the calibration signal into the signal received by the receiving elements, coupling at least one measurement signal out of the signals produced by the beam shaping network (301) and deriving control parameters for the beam shaping network from the measurement signal and a predefined antenna characteristic (311).
