Safety design chuck for lathe has spring loaded drives which hold the chuck blocks when the setting tool is removed

A safety design lathe chuck has the cheeks (4) moved axially by a drive (5) with teeth profiles which grip the toothed profile under the cheeks. A setting tool (15) operates on the drive and presses it back against spring pressure (18) to release the cheeks. If the setting tool is released the springs (18) push the drive back into meshing with the cheeks. This prevents the cheeks from being hurled out of the chuck if the machine is turned on without clamping the cheeks.
