PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact image pickup device capable of securing illuminance and performing illumination without illumination irregularities. SOLUTION: An image pickup device has both a vertical illumination system for a printed board 3 as an object with relief to be illuminated with light by downward irradiation and an image pickup part 6 to obtain images by receiving reflected light from the printed board 3 by the illumination system. In the image pickup device, the illumination system has a scattering plate 1 as a plane light source and is provided with a semi-transparent mirror 4 to be arranged between the scattering plate 1 and the printed board 3. The semi-transparent mirror 4 has a flat-plate substrate 4a to transmit light from the scattering plate 1 to the side of the printed board 3, and an inclined surface 4b to reflect light from the printed board 3 toward the image pickup part 6 is formed on the flat-plate substrate 4a.
