PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylindrical storage battery preventing short-circuit from occuring between a positive electrode plate and a case and having improved reliability. SOLUTION: A cylindrical storage battery 20 is provided with a case 21 having an open portion 22 on the top face. A positive electrode plate 32 and a negative electrode plate 33 are interpolated inside the case 21. A plate-like packing 26 composed of an insulating member for supporting a positive electrode cap 24 is positioned above the positive plate 32 and the negative plate 33 so that it protrudes from the open portion 22. The inside of the case 21 is sealed by pinchingly securing the plate-like packing 26 by a caulking section 30, which is formed to protrude inward by press working of the case 21. An insulating member for insulating the positive plate 32 and the case 21 is integrally mounted to the positive electrode 24 between the caulking section 30 and the positive plate 32.
