An IC engine has at least one combustion chamber (1) into which at least one inlet valve (2) and at least one outlet valve (3) open out. The IC engine has a store in which a hydraulic fluid is contained under a storage pressure and pressure lines from the store to the inlet and outlet valves. The inlet and outlet valves can be operated by means of the hydraulic fluid. At least one fuel injection valve (4) opens out into the combustion chamber. The engine has injection lines (5) which run from the store to the injection valves and fuel serves as hydraulic fluid.
