PURPOSE: A new method for formatting and transforming a date is provided to solve a millennium bug problem relating to marking a year and to be compatible with the existing date format. CONSTITUTION: A date format for solving a millennium bug comprises: a year, a month, and a day composed of two ciphers each; two identifiers classifying relative locations of the ciphers; one identifier taking an extending role of displaying a thousand-unit cipher of four ciphers of the year; the other identifier taking an extending role of displaying a hundred-unit cipher of the four ciphers of the year; and each identifier formed by a character string not used in an existing date format.
