The footrest has a toothed rack (10) with teeth (11) engaging a first pinion (9) on one end of a support lever (8) and coupled to a first rotational drive (13). The rack has a second pinion (12) coupled to a second rotational drive (14) to produce longitudinal movement of the rack. The rack may have one row of teeth engaging with both pinions with longitudinal displacement, or two rows with one pointing upwards and meshing with the first pinion, and the other pointing downwards and meshing with the second pinion.
