PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To resolve a problem that former peat-moss is press-molded at an extremely high density and has a poor water absorbability after irrigation by being affected with a water repellency of the peat-moss, and requires a very long time to be recovered, and so gives very poor workability, and recovery to a suitable shape is not performed because of the poor recoverability, and as a result, suitable seeding and seedling growing works are hardly performed. SOLUTION: This compression molded medium is obtained by compression molding vegetable fibers such as of peat-moss so as to have a weight per 1 cm3 of 0.6-1.0 g. Otherwise, the compression molded medium is obtained by mixing vegetable fibers such as of peat-moss with a clayey material such as bentonite or montmorillonite capable of preventing water repellency of the vegetable fibers such as of the peat-moss or with a surfactant such as an alkylene oxide-based or an ester-based nonionic surfactant so as to have a weight per 1 cm3 of 0.6-1.0 g.
