PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat developable image forming material having film strength necessary for photoengraving, especially for a scanner and image setter, having good coating surface state, excellent photographic performance and low production cost. SOLUTION: In the image forming layer containing a photosensitive silver halide of this material, a polymer latex having the glass transition temp. between >=-30 deg.C and <=40 deg.C is used as >=50 wt.% of the binder. The image forming layer and/or adjacent layers contain a nucleus forming agent. The weight ratio of the coating amt. of a nonphotosensitive silver salt per 1 m2 to the solid content of the polymer latex used for the image forming layer is controlled to 0.5 to 1.5.
