The viscometer has a tensioned coil spring (15) in a measurement chamber (10) between a measurement body (13) and a casing that takes up an axial force exerted on a measurement body by the pressure of the medium. The viscometer has a casing and a measurement chamber with a measurement shaft (7) partly in the casing and chamber, a measurement body at the chamber end of the shaft and a drive (1) and a torque sensor on the housing section of the shaft. The measurement body performs a tumbling motion about a non-body axis. A folding bellows encloses the shaft section in the measurement chamber. A tensioned coil spring in the measurement chamber between the measurement body and the casing takes up the axial force exerted on the measurement body by the pressure of the medium.
