The method involves storing the recently detected access data for (N-1) paths from N data paths based on the longest not used or LRU (least recently used) algorithm, storing the recently detected access data of a remaining data path in the N data paths based on a priority sequence for the remaining data path with reference to the (N-1) data paths and selecting a certain data path based on modified LRU bits that include the LRU bits and the priority bits. An Independent claim is also included for a computer system with a fast buffer memory.
