The single seater rowing boat (1) has two oars (3, 4). The inner ends of the oars are attached to a central pillar, between the rower's legs. The rower has a fixed seat (13) and a footplate (15) which moves fore and aft on a slide (16). The footplate (15) is linked to the oars via cables (17) which run over pulleys (20, 21) behind the rower. When the rower's feet move forward, the oars pivot backwards, propelling the boat forward. Handles (8, 9) are used to lift and feather the blades.
