Variable geometry airfoil for aircraft wings and helicopter rotor blades

A variable geometry airfoil, e.g. for an air craft wing, has an internal structure (5) whose shape can be adjusted in a controlled manner. The inner structure is connected to the upper (3a) and lower (3b) skins and thereby controls the shape of the airfoil. The leading edge (8) and the trailing edge (12) of the airfoil are rigid and are connected by the upper and lower skins.
