A silencer for a signal gun for testing the gun without undue disturbance comprises a multiple chamber structure which is screwed into the end of the muzzle of the gun. The gasses pass through coaxial expansion chambers and through a series of cross walls forming a labyrinth gas path to the gas outlet (3) at the front of the silencer. The cross walls have gas holes offset from each other and can also be angled to the axis of the silencer. The silencer can also contain a section of absorbent material.
