The invention concerns hard surface cleaning compositions comprising a halog en bleaching agent and a surfactant system, wherein the surfactant system consists of or comprises at least one ethoxylated nonionic surfactant carryi ng a terminal OH group in an amount of more than 0.2 % by weight of the composition and the composition comprises a buffer system to maintain the pH at or above 11.5. The surfactant system preferably comprises a mixture of anionic and nonionic surfactants. The compositions preferably additionally comprise an abrasive.
