PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject inhibitor inhibiting the expression of an inflammatory protein and the activation of a gene transcription regulation factor and useful for preventing, improving and treating inflammatory skin damages or diseases by compounding a specific amino acid derivative. SOLUTION: This inhibitor contains one or more kinds of compounds selected from amino acid derivatives of the formula [Ar is a (substituted) 2-hydroxyarl; (n) is 0 or 1; R<2> is H, anα-amino acid or the like; X is O or NH; R<1> is H or a group for forming the ring structure of pyroglutamic acid; R<3> is H, a 1-22C alkyl or the like] and salts thereof as an active ingredient. The inhibitor may orally or parenterally be administered, but is preferably directly administered to an inflammatory factor activation system. The inhibitor is preferably added to cosmetics or skin preparations for external uses. When added to the cosmetic, the inhibitor is preferably used in an amount of 0.1-5 wt.%, while when added to the skin preparation for external use, the inhibitor is preferably used in an amount of 0.1-20 wt.%.
