Transverse action breech block for large calibre barrel weapon

The horizontal action wedge breech block has a breech wedge (5) located in the base piece which is connected to the gun barrel, the wedge being displaceable transversely to the barrel bore axis. A control cam peg (9) is fixed to the rear of the breech wedge and engages the fork-shaped recess (10) of an opener lever (14) situated on the bottom of the base piece in a gun cradle. The remote arm (15) of the opener lever is connected to an external drive (17) such as an electric motor, through a system of transmission rods (16). The lever arm is pivotable about a swivel axis (13) perpendicular to the barrel bore axis from an initial position (I) to a final position (II), such that the breech wedge is moved from the closed to the open position. The wedge is held in the closed position by a spring affixed to the rear edge of the base piece.
