PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packet repeater which is capable of a flexible repeating judgment and a high speed repeating judgment. SOLUTION: The packet repeater has a cache memory that stores a flow database 21b corresponding to various protocols and to which relay information is registered respectively corresponding to each of a plurality of different keys. In the case of receiving a packet, a retrieval engine 22 retrieves an entry corresponding to a key generated according to a variably set condition for each protocol as to the received packet from the flow database 21b. An address resolution/header update section 23 uses the relay information obtained as a result of retrieval and applies processing for the relay to the received packet and informs a packet switch controller 12 of it so that the controller 12 sends the processed packet to a relay destination.
