Shortened route for manufacture of yarns from scelenchyma fibers, especially flax

The bast fibers are separated out by chemical treatment and then subjected to longitudinal mechanical working, e.g. using pins in a gill box. The sliver is then separated mechanically into single fibers, e.g. by the opening roller of an open-end rotor spinner, and spun into yarn. Alternatively the sliver can be stretch-broken, followed by carding, drawing and spinning.
