PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the insulation effect of a glass panel, while glass plates are protected from their breakage and damage, by using wires formed by twisting a plurality of wire materials, as space retainers for the glass panel, which is kept at a reduced pressure in the space formed by intervening long space retainers between a pair of glass plates opposing to each other. SOLUTION: In this glass panel P, long space retainers 2 are intervened between a pair of glass plates 1 opposing to each other to form a space between the glass plates 1A and 1B. The space is tightly closed along the outer periphery and is kept at a reduced pressure. Individual space retainers 2 are strings that are formed by twisting two metal wire materials having round cross sections thereby reducing the ventilation resistance in the spaces to permit efficient evacuation. In addition, the contact area between the space retainers 2 and the glass plates is reduced to increase its thermal contact resistance whereby the insulation effect is improved. |
