PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new Bacillus sp. IS5 capable of breeding in a specific pH region in a specific temperature region under an aerobic condition, having an activity to degrade organic substances or organic wastes, and capable of reducing the degradation failures of the organic wastes. SOLUTION: This new Bacillus sp. IS5 (FERM P-16778) can bleed at a pH of <5.0 at a temperature of >=45 deg.C and under an aerobic condition. The new Bacillus sp. IS5 has a high activity to degrade organic wastes in the low pH region, can reduce the degradation failures of the organic wastes in the low pH region, and is useful for organic waste treatment devices (garbage treatment machines), etc. The degradational bacterium is obtained by inoculating a soil collected in Hyogo prefecture in a selective culture medium containing an olive oil as a carbon source, integrally culturing the soil at 50 deg.C for 7 days, further subjecting the cultured liquid to a culture using a culture medium containing tributyrin in an emulsified state to form a colony having a clear zone on the culture medium, separating the colony by a fishing method, and subsequently selecting a bacterial stain capable of growing and bleeding in a wide and low pH region. |
