A method of producing oxide surface layer on metals or alloys has the steps of delivering a metal or alloy into a working chamber preheated to temperature from 200 °C to below its melting points so that the metal or alloy is heated in the working chamber to a temperature from 100 °C to below a melting point of the metal or alloy in waterless atmosphere, and introducing into the working chamber a water solution of a chemical compound, wherein an element of the compound will diffuse into the surface of the metal or alloy, the working chamber is heated to convert the water to steam, whereing the steam converts the element of the compound to oxide particles, while oxidizing the surface so that the oxide particles interact with the oxide of the surface to produce a protective oxide layer where the element has diffused into metal surface.
|
