PURPOSE:To obtain an oxidation catalyst and provide an oxidizing method by which CO in reformed gas used as the fuel of a fuel cell is selectively oxidized and the oxidation of gaseous hydrogen is inhibited. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst such as platinum is carried on a carrier such as zeolite having pores of 0.4-2nm diameter to obtain the objective reformed gas oxidation catalyst. Reformed gas is mixed with oxygen and brought into contact with the oxidation catalyst to selectively oxidize CO. Since only CO in the reformed gas is oxidized and hydrogen is not oxidized, when the treated reformed gas is used as the fuel of a fuel cell, the electrode catalyst is not poisoned and a wasteful use of hydrogen is prevented. |
