PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the discharge capacity of cells serving as power supplies for implantable medical devices. SOLUTION: Two electrochemical cells are connected in parallel with each other in combination with a medical device which requires both a substantially constant discharge rate current for a monitoring period and a pulse discharge for device operation, and (a) a first electrochemical cell which should become a first medical device power supply which stops during the execution of a first pulse discharge but which discharges at a first discharge rate current, (b) a second electrochemical cell which should become a second medical device power supply which stops during the execution of a second pulse discharge but which discharges at a second discharge rate current, and (c) a switching means inserted between the cells and medical devices are provided. Until the energy capacity of the first cell is exhausted to a first threshold, the cell is connected as the power supply for monitoring the medical device and for operating the medical device, and then the second cell is connected as the power supply for operating the medical device while the first cell is actuated as the power supply for monitoring the medical device. Further, actuation is effected when the energy capacity of the first cell is exhausted to a second threshold, and the first cell is separated from the medical device. |
