The coupling arrangement has an adaptor waveguide (4) between the transmitter (1) and the multimode waveguide (18). One end of the adaptor waveguide is connected to a coupling point (17) at an end of the multimode waveguide. The adaptor waveguide at the coupling point and the longitudinal axis of the multimode waveguide define an acute angle ( alpha ). The angle is preferably between 2 and 15 deg. The ends of the multimode waveguide to be coupled, and the adaptor waveguide, may each be received by a plug pin (8). The adaptor waveguide and the central longitudinal axis of its pin preferably define an acute angle. The pins are preferably concentric. The adaptor is preferably a single mode waveguide.
