摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic record medium provided with excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristics for which the center line average surface coarseness of a magnetic layer surface is <=3.0 nm and friction is small, and the manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The center line average surface coarseness of the magnetic layer surface formed on a non-magnetic supporting body is <=3.0 nm, and at the time of defining a maximum value in the range (range affecting the friction) of the wavelength >=0.1μm and <1.0μm of a power spectrum for which the magnetic layer surface is Fourier transformed as P1 and the maximum value in the range (range affecting spacing loss though not affecting the friction) of the wavelength >=1.0μm and <=10.0μm of the power spectrum as P2 , P2 <=P1×10 is satisfied. The center grain diameter of alumina contained in the magnetic layer is not more than the layer thickness of the magnetic layer and it is desirable that the content is from 5 pts.wt. to 6 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of magnetic powder.
