PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compensate the wavelength dispersion of a transmission line over a wide band and a dispersion slope. SOLUTION: Signal light obtd. by multiplexing plural different wavelengths is propagated on an input light transmission line 1. To the signal length from the line 1 the primary wavelength dispersion is compensated through a dispersion compensation fiber 2, a wavelength division multiplex (WDM) filter 3 divides this output into a short wavelength (L) band and an long wave length (H) band, and they are inputted to WDM filters 7 and 9 through light circulators 5 and 6 respectively. λ1 to λ8 are grouped and propagated to chirped grating fibers 8a to 8d, which are connected to the filters 7 and 9, and λ9 to λ16 are grouped and propagated to 10a to 10b. A secondary wavelength dispersion compensation is performed on the respective ways from a port (1) to a port (3) of the circulators 5 and 6 and the wavelength dispersion that occurs, when the wavelength multiplex transmission is performed is compensated. |
